Last Sunday my wife and I decided to spend our Valentine’s morning by joining the Run for Life: A Love Run. This running event was organized by DLSU students to raise funds for their project of building a day care center somewhere in Bulacan. The event had three categories namely, 3K, 5K and 10K. We joined the 10K race which started a bit later than what was announced at around 5:35 a.m. The gun start was at the 34th Avenue in BGC and the route went around BGC with the 10K turn around going as far as the Kalayaan Flyover.
The race was coordinated by Pep Squad. There were ample hydration stations along the way, but I think the interval between stations was a bit far (around 2KMs or more). It’s a good thing that majority of those joined the fun run were casual runners who were probably not gunning for new PRs or aiming for a Podium finish. Hence, the need to hydrate more often was not that high. At any rate, for the next staging of this run, I hope the DLSU Englicom students will consider shortening the interval of the hydration stations for safety purposes.
Other than that, the fun run went pretty smooth. There were ample race and road marshalls along the route and most if not all of them were very supportive of the runners. I just hope that the organizers paid more attention to the timing of the gun start and stick to what was announced.
Another issue which the organizers probably didn’t pay too much attention too was the pointed by the Kikay Runner. Go check her blog to read about this.
Overall, congratulations to the young students who staged this fun run. The fact that you’re doing this for a cause makes you deserving of at least a pat on the back. Hopefully, most if not all of you will become more enthusiastic about running.
